2020 Infrastructure Improvement Project Bidding Authorized
Posted on 02/12/2020

New Hope City Council approved the plans and specifications and authorized bidding for the proposed 2020 infrastructure improvement project at the Feb. 10 city council meeting.

The proposed infrastructure improvements are for street improvements in the southern area of New Hope between Hwy 169 and Boone Avenue North and between 36th and 30th avenues. Additionally there are street, water main, sanitary sewer and storm sewer improvements on Northwood Parkway and 36 ½ Circle between Boone and 36th avenues. The total project cost estimate is $2.85 million, with proposed alternates for a total of $3.5 million if all are accepted.

The street conditions on Northwood Parkway and 36 ½ Circle, the two streets identified for full reconstruction in the 2019 Pavement Management Plan, are very poor. Additionally, the streets planned for either a mill and overlay or reclaim and overlay in the 2019 Pavement Management Plan have street PRI ratings between poor and failing.

An open house was held on Oct. 10 to inform interested residents located in the full reconstruction portion of the project, and a public hearing was then held on Oct. 28, 2019.

The pavement management strategy philosophy has the overall goal of improving driving surfaces to enhance residents’ quality of life, increase neighborhoods’ aesthetic value and increase safety.

The next steps in the 2020 infrastructure improvement project include contractor bids to be opened at New Hope City Hall on Mar. 12, 2020 and the City Council to review at the Mar. 23 council meeting.
