WHAT IS A COMPREHENSIVE PLAN?
A Comprehensive Plan is a long-range planning document that guides future development and redevelopment of the City. New Hope’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan was last updated in 2018.
Minnesota communities in the metropolitan area are required to update their Comprehensive Plans every 10 years as part of the Metropolitan Council's regional planning process. The City's 2050 Comprehensive Plan update will align with the Metropolitan Council's regional development guide, “Imagine 2050,” while reflecting New Hope's unique vision, goals and priorities for the future.
NEW HOPE'S 2050 UPDATE
New Hope’s 2040 Comprehensive Plan establishes the City's vision for the future and creates a framework that guides City Council and staff in their decision making, development of ordinances and directing of investments to support all residents and meet community needs. The plan also functions as a legal foundation for community rules and regulations, such as the zoning ordinance.
The 2050 Plan will include citywide goals and priorities for the following topics:
- Land use
- Housing
- Transportation
- Water supply
- Wastewater
- Surface water
- Parks
- Climate and natural systems
PLANNING TIMELINE
The planning process begins summer 2026, with a full draft of the plan expected to be available for public review by mid-2027. There will be multiple opportunities to be involved in the process along the way through responding to surveys, attending community events and open houses and providing feedback on the plan draft. These opportunities will be listed on this website.
