Do you have holiday decorations that you no longer use? Or perhaps you’re looking to add a few new pieces to refresh your seasonal décor without spending any money?
Hennepin County’s new Swap-It events offer a fun and sustainable way to share resources, reduce waste, and connect with your community. These free community gatherings allow residents to bring gently used items they no longer need and exchange them for items they will use. This initiative is made possible through a waste reduction and reuse grant from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, with Reuse Minnesota serving as the event producer.
The inaugural event will be the Fall and Winter Holiday Décor Swap-It on Sunday, Oct. 12, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Brookdale Library in Brooklyn Center. Participants can bring gently used fall and winter holiday decorations they wish to part with and swap them for decorations they prefer. Don’t have anything to bring? No problem! Everyone is welcome to participate, and all items are free to take.
What you need to know:
- No pre-registration is required.
- You do not need to bring items in order to take items.
- All items should be clean and in good working condition.
- Volunteers will check, weigh, and sort donated items.
- Any leftover items will be donated to Arc’s Value Village, ensuring nothing goes to waste.
Swap-It events are family-friendly and open to all. They are a great way to celebrate the seasons, reduce clutter, support local reuse efforts, and help the environment.
